Although he was born in Lagos, Nigeria: Josh was raised by his parents in the United States. He has always held a strong passion for the arts which persisted throughout his childhood and adolescence. During his time at the Georgia Institute of Technology, Josh immersed himself in digital art before completing his Bachelors of Architecture Degree in 2017. After 2 years of experience working as a design professional at a local architecture firm, he now pursues his art career full time as a visual artist, mentor, educator. Josh is best known for his youtube channel, Ergojosh, where he focuses on sharing his experiences, and artistic knowledge through enjoyable educational videos.
Justino is a decade long comics artist/writer, character designer, and ero artist currently residing in the most haunted city in America (contested) Savannah, GA. He’s currently working on an ero comic, Moon City 3, and hanging out with his three cats while playing games that are way too hard for him.
Jaki King is a freelance illustrator & designer, and a Bostonian transplant in Vancouver. She is the creator of the webcomic, KISMET, on Hiveworks, and her work has also been featured in Quanta Magazine and SAD Magazine.
Odunze Oguguo, also known as WhytManga online, is the co-founder of MyFutprint Entertainment, LLC and creator of Apple Black and Bacassi published on Saturday AM and Saturday PM respectively. He also runs a Youtube how to draw manga and anime art tutorial channel with almost 500K subscribers.
Rachael is a freelance character concept artist and 2D illustrator in the games industry, specializing in stylized design. She works primarily on MOBA projects such as SMITE, and formerly as a lead on Project: Stamina. In her free time, she works on her personal fantasy IP and thinks about Emet-Selch.
Miyuli is a comic artist currently working on the webtoon “Morgana and Oz. She has studied 2D animation in film school and occasionally does illustrations and character designs.

The first session in the Character Design workshop will highlight the importance of gesture in character design, as well as pointing out common mistakes to look out for to prevent rigid illustrations and expressions. Josh will also demonstrate how he finds, and exaggerates gestures from reference.

HeyitsJaki will go over how to use the core traits of a character’s personality to inform their design, as well as how to create and use quick thumbnail sketches as a tool for brainstorming and iteration.

In this workshop, we will work on character designs inspired by the fashion in history and the diverse cultures around us. We'll combine ideas to form newer creations with some meaning for fictional and functional designs. During the workshop, we will do research to create characters drawing from different cultures in ways that could exist in the manga series, Apple Black.

Poses are essential to communicating the personality of a character without dialogue. In this session, Rachael Cross, also known as wyrmforge, will go over how to use keywords to nail down characteristics and gesture, and break down of what constitutes a good pose.

Once a character's design has been decided, it's time to bring them to life with different expressions! Smiling, frowning, anger, tears, in order to tell a good story with a character, it's important to lay out their expressions to refer back to. Join us for the last session of the workshop with Miyuli, whose webtoon, Morgana and Oz is filled with an expressive cast of original characters!
